Dr. Horrible’s Extremely Un-Horrible Sing-Along Blog

Just two words to say: Joss. Whedon.

If you don’t know what that means, then here’s three more words.

Buffy.

Angel.

Firefly.

And Serenity, the film version of Firefly.

If you still don’t know what I’m talking about, then there’s nothing more I can do.

But if you ‘get it’, then get this: During the recent Writer’s Strike in the US, Joss Whedon and a few of his buddies decided to do something bypassing the entire Hollywood system altogether. They weren’t the only writers who came up with a web-series. Others wrote, produced, directed, and even webcast some pretty decent shows.

I’ve even watched several of them and continue to follow a couple from time to time.

But this is different. For one thing, it’s Joss Whedon. I mean, the man’s totally cool. I still remember watching the first episode of Buffy and being so blown away by the writing, the mood, the characters, that I knew right there and then that this was the kind of television show I wanted to watch. Even to write, damnit. And write that well.

And after seeing his web show, Dr. Horrible, I’ll say it again. Joss Whedon is totally cool.

He rocks.

The fact that he has some great talent in Dr. Horrible doesn’t hurt either. And the show itself is terrific fun. Music, humour, a good supervillain, and a bad supervillain. Romance. And even a few sly digs at various bugbears.

What more could you ask for in three episodes of ten minutes each?

Honestly, it’s fun, and the best damn web series I’ve seen. Or web-miniseries. Though I hope he’ll do more. Many, many, more.

And if iTunes starts treating India like the market it is, rather than as a nation of copyright pirates and thieves, and allows us to start buying stuff online, I’ll be happy to pay for future episodes rather than watching it online or downloading it through bittorrent.

Stupidity, Amriki-ishtyle… (it’s the national sport now)

No, I didn’t write this one. I only wish I had.
